The latest generation of robots capable of performing particularly astonishing tasks. The robotics company Figure has recently concluded a collaboration agreement with OpenAI for the development of next-generation AI models that will power its humanoid robots.
At the same time, the company has closed a $675 million funding round with the support of prestigious investors, including OpenAI itself, Jeff Bezos, Microsoft, and Nvidia. This funding injection will accelerate the company’s deployment schedule.
A few days ago, the robotics company Figure developed a robot, “Figure 1,” capable of holding complete conversations and planning and executing its actions. This is achieved by connecting the robot to a multimodal model trained by OpenAI that understands images and text.
By connecting to the model, the robot “Figure 01” is able to describe its environment, interpret everyday situations, and perform actions based on very ambiguous and context-dependent requests. It’s mind-blowing!
A robot that listens, plans, thinks, reasons, and acts. The detailed description of the robot’s capabilities includes describing its visual experiences, planning future actions, reflecting on its memories, and verbally explaining its conclusions leading to actions.
